Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau is to enhance Sandusky County by marketing the area as a destination to leisure and group travelers both inside and outside Sandusky County.
What We Do
The Sandusky County Visitors Bureau is a 501c6 that is solely funded by a bed tax that is placed on the purchase of local room lodging in Sandusky County. Those funds are collected and distributed by the Sandusky County Auditors office and is a mandatory tax to be withheld by all hotels, bed and breakfast locations and retreat centers that have 5 or more rooms occupied by paying guests.
The taxes collected are used to advertise and market our county and ultimately attract new overnight guests, thus helping both us and our local economy. Annually we print and distribute a community guide with information about hotels, restaurants, attractions, parks and more, These are distributed both locally and across the State through third party contracts with companies such as AdRack and Travelboards who maintain information at rest areas and stops along the US interstates and the Ohio Turnpike.
We also advertise area attractions though the use of paid advertising in both print and digital realms and help to promote attractions and events through SEM (Search Engine Marketing).
Another free service that we offer is our community Calendar of Events page that anyone can post their upcoming events to. Doing so is quick and easy using our website submission form on this site, or by clicking "Submit your Event" here.
Perhaps the biggest and most important role our organization has is creating group tour experiences and helping bus tourism operators arrange itineraries that involve stops in our county. Our team attends multiple travel and tourism conferences annually to sell our experiences and local attractions to potential clients, and the Sandusky County Visitors Bureau is known as one of the most successful in the state of Ohio for annual bus traffic.
Today the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museum is one of the leading attractions to visitors of Sandusky County. In 2016 the Hayes Presidential Museum received a 1.3 million dollar renovation.
