We call it Home

Sandusky County is known for agriculture, manufacturing and tourism as its top industries. Once known as the cutlery and sauerkraut capitals of the world, today it is widely known for its rich historical significance.

Fremont, Ohio, the county seat of Sandusky County, was the location of the first victory in the War of 1812 at the Battle of Fort Stephenson and is the home to our nation’s 19th President, Rutherford B. Hayes. The Hayes Center is also home to the first Presidential Library in the nation.

Another local favorite is the Historical Sandusky County Jail, located in Fremont. Experience life in an 1840’s dungeon cell and explore the Gallows Exhibition Hall and historic jail that was in use for nearly 100 years. Also offered at the Historic Jail is a paranormal ghost hunt adventure…an experience that is not for the faint of heart!
